. Southwest commenced service on June 18, 1971, with three Boeing 737 aircraft serving three Texas cities: Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. On December 31, 2019, Southwest had a total of 747 Boeing 737 aircraft in its fleet and served 101 destinations in 40 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and ten near-international countries: Mexico, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Belize, Cuba, the Cayman Islands, and Turks and
Caicos.
In 2018, the fleet of Southwest Airlines had 750 Boeing 737 aircraft of which it owned 627, and 123 were leased. Out of the total aircraft in its fleet, 512 were Boeing 737-700 aircraft, 207 were 737-800 and 31 were 737 Max-8.
